What should I expect at my first appointment?

Your first visit is a complete evaluation. Plan on two hours. Here's what we'll cover:

  • A conversation about what's frustrating you — what you're missing, where, and how long it's been going on
  • A full hearing test (air conduction, bone conduction, and word recognition)
  • A walkthrough of your results in plain language
  • If anything's going on, we'll look at options — including a hearing aid demonstration if you're curious what current technology actually sounds like
  • Insurance and discount plan review if applicable
  • If you're ready to commit to a solution, we'll move forward. If you're not, that's fine — you'll leave understanding your hearing either way

If your hearing test shows no loss, your appointment will usually run closer to 45 minutes.

How long do appointments take?

Three appointment types, with time built in for the work to actually get done:

  • Initial evaluation: 2 hours — testing, results review, and your questions answered. About 45 minutes if no hearing loss is found.
  • Fitting: 1.5 hours — fitting the aids, programming them to your audiogram, and walking through how to use them.
  • Follow-up: 1 hour, scheduled about two weeks after the fitting — time to adjust the settings based on how things are going and answer the questions that always come up once aids are in real use.
Do you accept insurance?

Most third-party hearing benefits and discount plans are accepted. At your first appointment we'll find out what your specific plan covers before we discuss any pricing.

For some patients, insurance is the right path. For others, a discount plan is a useful bridge — a way to try aids and confirm you'll actually wear them before making a larger investment.

What brands of hearing aids do you carry?

Starkey, Phonak, Unitron, Signia, and Rexton. As an independent fitter, I have no manufacturer quota — I fit the brand that makes sense for your hearing and your life, not the brand a corporate office told me to push.

Do you offer hearing aid repair?

Yes — including aids not originally purchased here. Bring in what you've got and we'll work with the manufacturer to get it repaired correctly. No need to ship yourself off to a chain location.

What about custom hearing protection?

Yes. Custom-molded earplugs for hunters, musicians, factory and shop workers, swimmers — anyone serious about protecting hearing they still have. Plan on about 30 minutes for the impressions; the finished plugs are ready a couple of weeks later.

How do payments work?

Payment and financing options are being finalized for the new office. We'll have current details ready at your appointment so you can choose what works for your budget — including insurance, discount plans, and any direct-pay options.

Will you pressure me to buy something?

No. That's the practice's whole reason for existing. Kate is an educator first — you'll leave the evaluation knowing what's going on with your hearing whether or not anything changes hands. The decision to move forward is yours, on your timeline.
